37th INTERNATIONAL TOURIST GUIDE DAY 2026

Free Tour and Lectures on 22nd of February, 2026

Vienna has long been one of Europe’s most important centers of medical science. Its international reputation was shaped above all by the First and Second Vienna Medical Schools, as well as by institutions such as the former General Hospital (known as “Altes AKH”), which embodied the ideals of medical education and Enlightenment reform. A key institution of this period was the Josephinum, founded in 1785 by Emperor Joseph II as a medical-surgical academy for the training of military physicians. Renowned for its exceptional collection of anatomical wax models, the Josephinum represents the Enlightenment ideal of education through visual and scientific precision. Today, it is part of the Medical University of Vienna and serves as a museum and center for medical history.
The International Tourist Guide Day 2026 will take place in the Josephinum (Währinger Straße 25, 1090 Vienna). We will offer free guided tours and lectures in the museum as well as in “Altes AKH”, admission is free for our guests.
