House of Austrian History (hdgö)

On November 12, 1918, the democratic republic was proclaimed. The inferno of the First World War was over, the Habsburg Monarchy in ruins, the future of the new state fully open. The opening exhibition New Ages: Austria Since 1918 is dedicated to the youngest Austrian century.

The starting point is the experiences of the people, the hopes, but also the fears associated with the founding of the republic. Seven thematic focal points highlight the development and the transformation of democracy and society. The exhibition also shows what the absence of democracy can mean. Remarkable objects, exciting documents, artistic interpretations and interactive media stations bring contemporary history to life. We invite you to share your perspectives on the past!
