We would be delighted to welcome you there!
International Tourist Guide Day on February 17th, 2019

Tours and lectures will be held throughout the whole day

The International Tourist Guide Day has a special jubilee to celebrate this year: For the 30th time in succession, the guides look forward to introducing their guests to another interesting site in the City. This time there is special focus on the Haus der Geschichte Österreich in the Hofburg. Guided tours in German will be offered free of charge on Sunday, 17th February 2019.
The Vienna Guide Association would be delighted to welcome not only the local Viennese, but also visitors from abroad, to our thematic tours and lectures under the motto „Contemporary Austrian History“.
The meeting point for all tours offered by the licensed Vienna guides is the entrance Hall of the National Library on Josefsplatz: So, not only the tours of the Haus der Geschichte Österreich start there, but also all other conducted tours such as tours of institutions belonging to the Austrian National Library, the Museum of Literature and external tours of the Hofburg. The lectures will also take place here in the „Camineum“.

Tours in foreign languages are offered at the State Hall (Prunksaal) of the Austrian National Library. The meeting point for tours in various languages is the entrance hall of the Austrian National Library, Josefsplatz, 1010 Vienna. Details »

Two days prior to this, we shall be offering guided tours for the blind and the visually impaired in the Dom Museum next to St.Stephen’s Cathedral. More (in German) »

As is the custom, the principal aim of the Vienna Guides is to offer both local connoisseurs and visitors alike state-of-the-art information. For this, about 150 guides will be on site during these two days to give you the opportunity to get to know their occupation, which indeed demands professionalism and versatility – all free of charge.

Last but not least, the Vienna Guides are not only skillful speakers, they are also accomplished writers. Once a year their Kulturmagazin is issued, a journal comprising 130 pages which is handed out free of charge on the World Day and is afterwards available at the Tourist Information on Albertinaplatz and at the „Ciy of Vienna“ information office in the City Hall.
This issue, which deals with the years 1938-1955 – the time from the Anschluss to the State Treaty – connects up with the 2013 magazine, which focussed on the years 1918-1938. In addition there will be a number of other articles in the Anniversarium on various subjects (which our readers will doubtlessly find interesting and instructive).
We are looking forward to welcoming you at the International Tourist Guide Day!
