Public gardens along Rigstrasse

These parks look back on almost 200 years of history. In the “Volksgarten” you will come across the monument to Empress Elisabeth and the Theseus Temple. This park is a special attraction in spring when nearly 400 different types of roses are in bloom. The “Burggarten”, formerly the private gardens of the Imperial family, is specially loved by the Viennese people because of its magnificent greenhouse.
The largest park along the Ringstrasse, however, is the “Stadtpark” which was laid out on either side of the river Wien. Here you will find a wealth of monuments dedicated to musicians and other artists. The “Kursalon” situated at the edge of the park used to be a concert hall where Johann Strauss the Younger conducted his orchestra.
