In contrast to tour managers, to hiking- and Alpine guides, and those employed to guide in specific houses or museums, the Licensed Guide in Austria practices a regulated trade to which one is admitted only after absolving a required curriculum, and passing a state examination. Therefore only the Licensed Guide is authorized to carry out comprehensive tours of historic and cultural sites, and to elucidate social and political ramifications.
