Imperial Furniture Collection

The Imperial Furniture Collection is a fascinating museum in Vienna. What originally started as a simple furniture depot for the Habsburg dynasty grew into what is now the world’s largest collection of furniture with 165,000 items! You will be able to view the emperors’ original furnishings from Hofburg Palace. Among many other fascinating items, there’s the Egyptian cabinet, which was commissioned by Empress Maria Ludovica in 1810. Don’t miss the portable throne, which allowed the empress to travel in the style that was appropriate for her position and influence.

In addition, there’s also a significant amount of furniture from the 19th and 20th century that was used by the civilian population, in particular from the Biedermeier period and from the artistic styles of Historicism. A legendary part of the collection is dedicated to spittoons, which were essential in all offices during those periods. Special exhibits revolve around modern interior design of the 20th century.
